The classic Cozumel snorkel route, and classic for a reason: Palancar and Colombia are shallow enough to snorkel properly rather than peer at from above, and both sit on the sheltered side where the water stays clear.

El Cielo is the last stop and the one people remember — a sandbar where the water is waist-deep over white sand, named for the starfish. Standing on them is not permitted, and any operator who encourages it is one to avoid.

Highlights

  • Palancar and Colombia reefs
  • El Cielo sandbar
  • Sheltered western side — works when the east coast does not
  • No certification needed
